La Tentation, the iconic floor lamp in the shape of a snake with its head coiled around a glass shade—and open mouth exposing its fangs and forked tongue—is well known among Art Deco collectors and experts. But this fine example, different from the classical model, includes the original inverted bell-shaped thick glass shade decorated with gold foil. Signed by Edgar Brandt and Daum Nancy, this sculptural floor lamp is part of a set of four specially commissionned for a Parisian apartment. No other example is known to exist. This special order also included the magnificent Antique console made from wrought iron, steel, and marble. The floor lamp and console stand on the same thick marble base. The set was kept in private hands until it was acquired by Robert Zehil.
